5K Playlist. 40+ minutes of music!

Remember cassette tapes and bulky walkmans? The big headphones? I loved mine, it was yellow and gray and constantly played my own mixed tapes of Madonna and En Vogue. I loved my boom box. Every morning I would record songs between talk shows and each night I'd play it back. This was the 80's people.

Playlist are a must have to my workouts. They offer motivation and keep me going when I feel myself getting tired. Some songs are chosen just for the beat, some for the lyrics but each make you want to move.
I've used Pandora set to fun fitness a few times, loved that. I haven't tried Spotify yet. Have you? And I'm definitely not one who can listen to podcasts or nothing at all. I can not hear myself breathing. If I hear myself breathing, I totally psych myself out. I sound like I'm on mile 20 when I'm barely clearing two.

I shuffled songs around to find a 40 minute playlist and since we must always have some JT action, there's an 8 minute cool down. 40 minutes of music will get you through a 12 minute mile 5K. The beat/tempo of these songs may encourage you to run around a 9 minute mile. Hope you like some of these songs!

workout playlist, pop music for your workout

I just found out about this Lolo App and it sounds amazing! You can use the music it has available or import your own music into the app. From there you can adjust the tempo! So if you're in love with a particular song but know that it's far to slow for your cycle routine, elliptical run, etc. this app lets you speed it up. All the reviews are great and it sounds like it comes with a "trainer" who reminds you of key things like shoulders down, belly button in, chin up. I'm thinking about giving this app a try. It's priced at 3.99.

Have you heard of this app or tried it before?
What songs are must haves in your playlist?

P.S. There are now 40+ of us signed up for the virtual 5K! I was so excited to see that! WooHooo!!!

  1. I was JUST telling myself I needed to work on my workout playlist tonight! As soon as it gets too predictable I get bored so I'm really glad you shared some of your favorites! And I'm totally the same way about hearing myself breathing. I hadn't seen yet about this virtual 5K - heading down to check out it out now! Thanks for sharing the playlist ideas :)

  8. I always like to listen to books when I work out. It keeps my mind off of how long I have to go before I finish working out.

  13. that sounds great! i've never tried it but would have loved that when I was teaching kickboxing! i liked to teach at 136 beats/minute or 140 (mostly 136) and could never adjust my own music so I had ot purchase it. If you end up teaching any cardio classes this sounds like it could come in handy for making your own playlists

  14. That sounds like a pretty cool app! I've never heard of it, but I might give it a try. When I run outside I'm boring and go without music. Well, I really do it for safety reasons (less of a chance of being a victim from a car or predator when you have all your senses). But when I'm working out at home I listen to the cadio electronica station on pandoria. Upbeat, without annoying lyrics (usually). :)

  15. Spotify is pretty cool. I keep using the free version. You've got to try motion traxx. I use it for most all of my running. This guy puts together music, like a DJ would, and sets all the beats to the same rhythm. It's a free podcast and there's no breaks between songs. Playlists range from 30 minutes to over an hour. It's in iTunes. Let me know what you think of it! Esther Norine Designs estherdavison@gmail.com
