My family uses peanut butter daily.
We spread it on toast with sliced banana's, dip celery and apples in it,
make PB&J sandwiches
and add it to our smoothies for a protein boost.

I've bought JIF for years and I've tried the more expensive, organic kind but could never "stir" it enough.
So in an effort to save a dollar and be more healthy - I decided to take a "spin" at making my own.
What you need
1 lb. peanuts
Food processor
5 minutes
divide your pound of peanuts in half. You'll want to blend about 2 cups at a time
Within a minute your peanuts will look like this
Blend for a few more minutes and the natural oils begin to breakdown creating your very own peanut butter
Use a spatula or spoon to scrape sides and have a taste test
determine if you want "crunchy" or "smooth" peanut butter.
my lil' guy decided it was just perfect and agreed to give back the spatula if I returned it full of PB |
I chose to store my homemade peanut butter in a simple Tupperware container.
And I keep it in the refrigerator.
*store bought PB does fine on a shelf but homemade PB will keep longer if stored in the refrigerator.
Tips for making it healthy
choose unsalted peanuts
try cashews or almonds
add protein powder
add almond milk
add local, organic honey
add vitamin/mineral powder
I'm still fascinated that I've successfully made my own peanut butter.
And did so in less than 5 minutes!
Be creative or conservative in which nut you choose and feel good knowing your homemade peanut butter can be free of any added sugars, artificial sweetener, oils, and preservatives.
How long will it keep?
ReplyDeleteI've read on numerous sites it will keep for a month in the fridge. It's been 2 weeks since I made this, had a PB&J today, it was fab! I'm not sure if our supply will even make thru a whole month! It's that good!
DeleteGoing to give it a try!
ReplyDeleteLet me know how it goes and which nut you choose!
DeleteSo cool! :D I love that!
ReplyDeleteIt is so cool and so easy :) I'm still shocked at how fast it whips up! And at how fast my family eats it!
DeleteGreat idea! I never thought of making peanut butter myself.
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to try it!! And let me know how it goes...
